EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (Sept. 18, 2013) — EAA’s fascinating speaker series focusing on unique and historic aviation experiences returns for its fall-winter season on Sept. 26, 2013 to the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Admission and a “beyond the ropes” museum tour immediately following is free. All presentations begin at 7 p.m. in the museum Founders’ Wing.
On Sept. 26, Dick Campbell presents the 60-year saga of “The Lost Squadron and the Resurrection of the P-38 Glacier Girl.” A group of World War II aircraft on their way to England are grounded and eventually buried by a blizzard in Greenland. A half-century later, an intrepid group seeks to extract at least one of the aircraft and restore it to flying status.
On Oct. 17, EAA vice president Jeff Skiles will present “Flight of Pan Am 6,” the amazing story of the most memorable open-water ditching in airline history, the 1956 incident with a Boeing 337 that occurred halfway between California and Hawaii.
On Nov. 7, retired Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics official Tom Thomas presents “Flying in the Wisconsin Air National Guard,” a look at the Badger State’s military flying unit from its inception through today.
