FAA Updates BasicMed Program

WASHINGTON, DC – The Federal Aviation Administration has updated its BasicMed regulations to allow pilots to operate larger aircraft and carry more passengers (Notice Number: NOTC4165).

The update includes the following changes:

  • Increase the number of allowable passengers from five to six, and the number of occupants from six to seven.
  • Increase the maximum aircraft takeoff weight from 6,000 lbs. to 12,500 lbs., excluding transport category helicopters.
  • Allow pilot examiners to conduct flight checks using BasicMed in aircraft that are covered by the BasicMed rule.
