TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — A new fixed base operator (FBO) terminal has opened at Cherry Capital Airport (KTVC), marking a significant investment in general aviation infrastructure and customer amenities at one of northern Michigan’s busiest airports.
Avflight Corporation officially celebrated the opening of its new 6,000-square-foot FBO on June 23 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by airport officials, community leaders, members of the airport board, and company representatives.
Designed to reflect the character of northern Michigan, the facility incorporates exposed wood beams, natural finishes, floor-to-ceiling windows, a large stone fireplace, and an enclosed outdoor patio. The design departs from the traditional corporate FBO aesthetic, creating a welcoming environment for pilots, passengers, and flight crews throughout the year.
Inside, the terminal offers a variety of amenities, including a pilot lounge, private sleep rooms, a conference room equipped with audiovisual technology, and passenger waiting areas. The facility also includes a locally inspired touch with Moomers ice cream available for visitors.
Aircraft operators have access to eight existing hangars capable of accommodating aircraft as large as the Gulfstream G700. Airport officials and Avflight also announced plans for future development of private, build-to-suit box hangars to provide additional long-term aircraft storage and support continued growth in business and general aviation activity at Traverse City.
The opening represents another step in Cherry Capital Airport’s ongoing efforts to expand aviation services and accommodate increasing demand for business and recreational flying throughout the region. As northern Michigan continues to attract seasonal visitors, corporate travelers, and aircraft owners, the new FBO is expected to strengthen the airport’s role as a gateway to the area while supporting future aviation growth.
