No-Fly Zone Over Chicago

CHICAGO, ILL. – The Federal Aviation Administration will impose a “no-fly zone” over Chicago during the NATO Summit, May 19-21, 2012, as part of NATO security measures. No plane will be allowed to fly within 10 nautical miles of downtown Chicago and not below 18,000 feet. The only aircraft that will be allowed within the 10-mile “inner core” are regularly scheduled commercial airliners, and approved law enforcement, air ambulance flights and military aircraft directly supporting the U.S. Secret Service. All aircraft flying between 10 and 30 miles of downtown Chicago are limited to arriving or departing local airports. Flight training, model aircraft operations, banner towing, and balloon operations will also not be allowed.
