AIR RACING – Air Race Classic Announces 2026 Route… Women’s Historic Cross-Country Air Race to Fly Through the Heart of the Midwest

Posted on July 30, 2025 by mwflyer

EAST ALTON, ILL. – The Air Race Classic (ARC), the longest-running all-women pilots’ cross-country air race in the United States, has announced the route for its 49th annual competition, June 23–26, 2026. Next year’s race will highlight the aviation heritage and vibrant communities of Illinois, launching from East Alton, IL, continuing through eight stops, then concluding in Mount Vernon, IL.

The 2026 ARC route will challenge racers to navigate a dynamic course through multiple intermediate stops, combining precise flying, strategic planning, and teamwork—all while celebrating the rich legacy of women in aviation. The 2026 race will include stops at East Alton and Mount Vernon, IL, Frankfort, KY and Spartanburg, S.C., Douglas, GA, Tanner/McComb, MS, Russellville, AR, Atchison, KS, Prairie du Chien, WI, and back to Mount Vernon, IL.

The Air Race Classic brings together pilots of all experience levels—from college students to veteran racers—to test their skills and endurance over four days of racing. The event continues a proud tradition that dates back to the 1929 Women’s Air Derby, promoting opportunities for women in aviation and inspiring the next generation of female aviators.

Air Race Classic Inc. is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with a mission of encouraging and educating current and future female pilots, increasing public awareness of general aviation, demonstrating women’s roles in aviation, and preserving and promoting the tradition of pioneering women in aviation.
