Bob Hoover’s “Ol Yeller” Aileron To Be Auctioned Off

Posted on January 11, 2011 by mwflyer
(L/R) Air show performer, Sean D. Tucker, looks on as Bob Hoover signs his aileron, which will be auctioned off to raise money for charity.

Pilots that would like an authentic keepsake from famed air show performer, Bob Hoover, now have that opportunity in bidding on an aileron once flown on Hoover’s P-51 Mustang, “Ol Yeller.”

In June 1980, the aileron received slight damage from a port-a-potty truck at an air show produced by fellow air show performer, Art Scholl, in Rialto, California. It was removed and replaced by another aileron, and Hoover flew his routine that day. Art Scholl’s widow, Judy Scholl, kept the damaged aileron until late 2010, when she donated it to the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) Foundation to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

This very aileron flew every air show, air race and flight that Bob Hoover and “Ol Yeller” flew from 1971 until June of 1980. It is now autographed, mounted on a beautiful walnut display board with Ol Yeller’s N number etched into the plaque, ready to hang in your office, home, hangar, museum or wherever you feel this one-of-a-kind piece of historic memorabilia should be displayed.

The aileron comes with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Bob Hoover and Judy Scholl.

You can bid on this item by going to www.icasfoundationauction.org, and clicking on collectables in the auction items block. Bidding closes at 10:00 pm EST on February 1, 2011.

The ICAS Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. All proceeds go to support the foundation’s family fund, scholarships funds, and the Air Show Hall of Fame.
