Smoke in adjacent provinces Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and the threat of rain showers, did not dampen the enthusiasm of pilots from as far away as Naples, Florida, who flew to Miminiska Lodge, Ontario (CPS5) to participate in the 2025 “Canada Fishing Fly-Out.” Located 196 nm north of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and 65 nm east from the closest town and road, Miminiska Lodge features a 2400 X 50 ft. grass airstrip (CPS5), modern amenities, excellent food and fishing, and the absolute best in pilot camaraderie! The trip, which is especially tailored to pilots, was held August 3 – 8, 2025. The lodge accommodated early arrivals due to incoming weather, and for that, we thank the owners of Miminiska Lodge, Wilderness North, and their staff.

And despite inflation, Wilderness North kept its “Reel Deal Rates” the same as 2023 and 2024! Guests were allowed to fish the afternoon on their day of arrival at no additional charge! A reception was held before each evening meal, and the staff prepared a delicious shore lunch each day on “Shore Lunch Island” located in the middle of the Albany River Watershed. Guides were available with advanced notice but not needed because of the experience of guests and detailed maps rip

Miminiska Lodge may be located in the middle of the Canadian wilderness, but features such amenities as satellite television, WIFI internet and telephone service, a sauna, billiard table, and recreational watercraft.

The largest fish this year was a 43-inch Northern Pike caught by Bob Carew of Green Lake, Wisconsin, and a 24-inch Walleye caught by Brent Halfwassen. Special thanks go to longtime participants Bob Carew and Greg Stratz of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, for hosting this year’s fly-out.

“Flying to Canada is both fun and educational,” says Dave Weiman of Midwest Flyer Magazine, who has promoted the trip for decades. “But knowing the ins and outs, including how best to clear Canada and U.S. Customs, what gear to pack, and where to fuel is half of the fun. We try to provide answers to most, if not all questions, including what fishing tackle works the best, and where to catch the most fish, like the ‘Walleye Mine!’ in a free trip planning guide.
