Trevelin, Argentina – February 18, 2025 – The Jim Richmond Backcountry Aviation Foundation (JRBAF) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Patagonia Bush Pilots, creating new opportunities for pilots from the United States and other popular international backcountry flying locations, to train and fly in one of the world’s most breathtaking and remote landscapes. This collaboration provides JRBAF members with access to specialized backcountry training and immersive flying experiences in the wild and rugged terrain of the Patagonia region of South America.
Through this partnership, JRBAF members will have the opportunity to refine their skills in real-world backcountry conditions, navigating diverse landscapes that range from towering peaks to expansive glaciers. Patagonia Bush Pilots, known for their local expertise operating in these remote areas, will offer specialized instruction tailored to the unique challenges of backcountry aviation in this region.
“This partnership is a game-changer for backcountry aviators,” said Brad Damm, Executive Director at JRBAF. “Joining forces with Patagonia Bush Pilots fits perfectly with our mission to expand public backcountry aviation access, and opens the door to provide our members with unparalleled training and adventure opportunities in one of the most dynamic flying environments on Earth.”
Pilots participating in the programs developed by Patagonia Bush Pilots will gain hands-on experience in advanced backcountry techniques, including precision landings on remote airstrips, mountain flying strategies, and wilderness navigation. This initiative aligns with JRBAF’s commitment to promoting safe and responsible backcountry aviation while fostering a global community of skilled pilots.
As part of this collaboration, JRBAF members will have the opportunity to visit remote lodges throughout Patagonia, where they can experience world-class fishing, explore pristine wilderness, and engage with the local communities in the region. These excursions will offer a unique blend of adventure and relaxation, allowing pilots to fully immerse themselves in the region’s natural beauty, while honing their backcountry flying skills.
“We are thrilled to welcome JRBAF members to Patagonia and share our expertise in bush flying,” said Queque Parodi, CEO of Patagonia Bush Pilots. “The landscapes here present incredible challenges and rewards, and we are excited to equip JRBAF members with the skills and confidence they need to navigate them safely.”
The partnership is set to launch immediately, with expeditions and local area training available for JRBAF members available in both late 2025 and early 2026. JRBAF members will receive preferred booking dates and discounted rates on all Patagonia Bush Pilot in-country services, including aircraft rental.
