‘Ladies Must Swing’ all-female band will get you up and dancing
EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (Sept. 3, 2015) — The glamour and romance of vintage hangar dances will be back for one night at the EAA AirVenture Museum on Saturday, Sept. 26, as the museum hosts its “September Swing” dance in the Eagle Hangar from 7-11 p.m.
The evening includes swing and big-band music from the unique Ladies Must Swing orchestra, an all-women, 19-piece group from Madison, Wisconsin, that labels itself as “a jazz band with 19 energetic dames.” The band reprises the great tradition of all-girl bands from the 1930s and ’40s. It earned the 2013 Madison Area Music Association award for best jazz performer and best jazz album for “Just For a Thrill.”
The atmosphere is perfect for a big-band hangar dance, as EAA’s Eagle Hangar provides a backdrop of World War II aircraft, vehicles and artifacts. The evening begins with a social at 7 p.m. followed by an opportunity to learn to swing dance or practice your skills at 7:30, with music beginning at 8 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded for the best dancers and best swing-era period attire. Photo opportunities are also available and the event will also include a cash bar.
Tickets for “September Swing” are $40 per person or $75 per couple. They can be purchased online at www.eaa.org/septemberswing or by calling 920-426-6823.
