LACK OF SNOW FORCES CHANGES IN EAA SKIPLANE FLY-IN ON SATURDAY, FEB. 18, 2017

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (February 15, 2017) — The current lack of snow in Oshkosh and absence of snow in the forecast has forced some changes for the annual EAA skiplane fly-in scheduled for Saturday, February 18, at the EAA AirVenture Museum.

Because of the unseasonable conditions, there will be no skiplane operations this year during the popular EAA winter event. However, the Pioneer Airport hangars will be open free of charge from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. that day, allowing people to explore the more than 30 airplanes on display at the facility, which is usually only open from May through early October.

“Sometimes Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate with the plans of skiplane pilots,” said Sean Elliott, EAA’s vice president of advocacy and safety, who oversees flight operations. “But EAA’s skiplane fly-in is also a popular annual gathering of people who enjoy aviation, so we’re going to welcome everyone to join us for what pilots like to call ‘hangar flying’ at Pioneer Airport that day.”

EAA will have a skiplane on display and volunteers will be on hand to describe skiplane operations, which are popular throughout North America during the winter. Complimentary soup and treats will also be available that day for visitors to Pioneer Airport. In addition, the EAA AirVenture Museum will be open for its regular hours for those who wish to enjoy one of the nation’s top aviation museums (regular museum admission rates apply).
