Laser Beams At Aircraft

Posted on October 27, 2011 by mwflyer

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is launching a new website http://www.faa.gov/aircraft/safety/report/laserinfo/ for pilots and the public to report incidents of lasers pointed at aircraft, which can distract or temporarily blind pilots. The FAA says laser incidents have risen steadily from 300 in 2005 to 2,795 thus far in 2011. The most laser events this year have been reported in Phoenix, Philadelphia and Chicago. Persons caught pointing a laser at an aircraft cockpit can face an $11,000 fine.
