There’s something special about music carried through open air, shared, unbounded, and shaped by the moment in which it’s heard.
On June 27, 2026, the Civic Symphony of Green Bay will once again transform the airport into a concert venue unlike any other, presenting the fourth annual Orchestra at the Airport. This year’s program, “Wings of Freedom: America250,” celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States with an afternoon of music that is both festive and familiar, hosted inside the Pilotsmith / Jet Air Group hangar at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (KGRB), offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience a live orchestra in an active aviation environment.
Since its debut, this unique blend of symphonic music and aviation has drawn more than 1,200 attendees each year, growing from a creative experiment into a valued part of Green Bay’s summer calendar.
The program brings together a lively mix of patriotic favorites, cinematic scores, and classic songs from the golden age of American popular music. From bold fanfares and heartfelt tributes to service, to soaring melodies inspired by flight and adventure, the afternoon is designed to feel both uplifting and accessible. Well-known themes from film and familiar favorites add a sense of fun and nostalgia, creating a program that moves easily between grandeur and lighthearted charm.
At its core, however, the event remains what it has always been: an open, welcoming gathering. Families spread out lawn chairs, children move freely between activities and music, and longtime concertgoers sit alongside first-time listeners. The setting removes barriers, making orchestral music easy to enjoy while also giving pilots and aviation enthusiasts a chance to experience the airfield in a different light.
With this year’s concert, the Civic Symphony of Green Bay offers not just a performance, but a summer afternoon experience—one shaped as much by the audience as by the music itself. Aircraft arrivals are welcome, with fly-in participation coordinated in advance for those choosing to arrive by air. Aircraft should park at the Jet Air Group FBO and proceed through the ramp-side security checkpoint. Check the NOTAMs for runway or ramp construction/closures or other notices. 20 cent per gallon fuel discount for all aircraft that fly in.
Admission is free – with optional donations supporting the orchestra’s ongoing work in the community – and all are welcome.
