Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Dedicated at Watertown Municipal Airport

Posted on June 10, 2026 by mwflyer

More than 1,000 community members gathered on Memorial Day weekend to commemorate the dedication of a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall replica at Marine Corps League Aero Park, located on the northeast corner of Watertown Municipal Airport and home to the corporate headquarters of Wisconsin Aviation, Inc.

The dedication ceremony, held May 25, marked the culmination of a multi-year community effort led by Watertown American Legion Post 189 in partnership with local veteran organizations, businesses, donors, and volunteers. The event brought together veterans, military families, civic leaders, and residents to honor the more than 58,000 Americans who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.

The memorial features an 80%-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., extending 320 feet in length with wall panels ranging from 2 to 8 feet in height. It is the only memorial of its kind in the Midwest north of St. Louis and bears the names of the fallen service members whose sacrifice continues to inspire future generations.

Organizers noted that more than $600,000 was raised through community donations and fundraising efforts to make the memorial a reality. Wisconsin Aviation, Inc., a supporter of the project, joined fellow community stakeholders in celebrating the completion of the memorial and its addition to the airport grounds.

The memorial is open to the public 24 hours a day and is equipped with lighting, benches, and security cameras to provide a safe and welcoming environment for visitors. Organizers hope the site will serve as a place of remembrance, reflection, and education for generations to come.
