The Waterloo Regional Airport (ALO) will close all aircraft operations from September 8 through September 22, 2026 to complete critical runway construction and infrastructure upgrades. This temporary closure is necessary to ensure the long‑term safety, reliability, and modernization of the airport’s airfield.
During this period, contractors will rehabilitate the runway system to extend pavement life and maintain compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards. No aircraft operations—including general aviation—will be permitted unless specifically coordinated and approved for emergency purposes.
“We recognize the inconvenience that a temporary closure may cause, but these improvements are necessary to ensure the long‑term safety and reliability of our airport infrastructure,” said Steven Kjergaard, Director of Aviation. “This investment will help Waterloo Regional Airport continue to serve our community for years to come.”
