Despite the forest fires in Ontario, the annual “Canada Fishing Fly-Out to Miminiska Lodge” went on as scheduled, thanks to efforts of the lodge owners, Alan and Krista Cheeseman their staffs, and the Canada government to save the property.
Initially, the staff at Miminiska Lodge was evacuated and the trip was called off. But within days of the scheduled trip, the owners of the lodge gave the green light and some members of our group regrouped and took off on July 29, 2026, as scheduled. The Canada government was quick to respond and saved as many properties as it could using portable water sprinklers, pumping water from the lakes. Unfortunately, not all the properties owned by Wilderness North could be saved, but Miminiska Lodge and its adjoining cabins, were.
Guests reported excellent fishing, and they returned to the U.S. on August 1.
Miminiska Lodge, Ontario (CPS5), is located 192 nm north of Thunder Bay, and has been Midwest Flyer’s preferred flying and fishing destination since 2007!
The dates for the 2027 trip will be announced in an upcoming issue of “Midwest Flyer Monthly.”

A “trip planning checklist” is emailed to all pilots once they have made their reservations, which covers information on clearing both Canada and U.S. Customs, suggested fishing tackle and gear, and what to expect when you arrive at the lodge to ensure a pleasant/hassle-free experience.
