Sully Named Aviation News Expert For CBS

Posted on May 20, 2011 by mwflyer

NEW YORK, N.Y. (May 19, 2011) – Retired U.S. Airways Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III, who safely landed an Airbus A320 in the Hudson River with both engines out on January 15, 2009, has now landed a job as the CBS News Aviation & Safety Expert. Sullenberger and copilot, Jeff Skiles, collided with a flock of Canada Geese shortly after takeoff from New York LaGuardia Airport on a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina (Flight 1549). The geese severely damaged both engines and the aircraft was without power. All 155 people on board survived without serious injury.

Skiles – a Wisconsin native – continues to fly for U.S. Airways when not lobbying Congress on behalf of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). Sullenberger resides in California and retired in March of 2010 after publishing a book on the incident. The two pilots are cochairman of EAA Young Eagles.
