JANESVILLE, WIS. – UW Health opened its newest 24/7/365 Med Flight location at Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport (KJVL) in Janesville, Wisconsin in June. “Med Flight Janesville” is the third base located outside of Madison, Wisconsin, where UW Hospital is located.
The airport’s location is strategic to accomplishing UW’s mission with two ILS approaches, allowing for an extra level of safety.
Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport is a large general aviation airport in Southern Wisconsin, offering a full array of services including aircraft management, maintenance, sales, repairs, and flight training. Pilots, tenants and customers enjoy business and recreational opportunities, from premier conference room space, to onsite dining and golfing next door.
What started out with glider training in the 1940s for the United States Army Air Forces, grew into the massive cargo operation needed to support the General Motors Corporation, which had a plant in Janesville in the 1950s-early 2000s. The airport was home to TWA and Northwest Airlines which had a couple of flights each day until 1989. Since then, the airport has maintained its certification with the FAA as a Part 139 facility. Today, home to 104 aircraft, including single and multi-engine piston aircraft and corporate jets, business and recreational pilots alike enjoy the amenities the airport and surrounding community has to offer.
Aimee Scrima joined Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport as its director in March of 2024, after spending a decade in the Wisconsin aviation industry. Juggling roles like wife, mother-of-five and pilot, she brings a wave of enthusiasm engaging the airport community, from serving on the Wisconsin Airport Management Association (WAMA) board or finding new ways to encourage the next generation of aviators.
